Default Internet Order - Orange County

After calling around local stores for any cardinal tetras I'm thinking of placing an internet order (first time) and ordering some. I am going to use:
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/categ.cfm?pCatId=830

I thought if anyone lives in the OC area and wants to piggy back an order and save on shipping, let me know ASAP.

Also, if anyone has words of warning, advice or wants to look into this, contact me. I'm also looking for a "mentor" or a paid consultant to help me with my tank.

Thanks,

Lauren

There is a LFS on the corner of La Palma and State College called the "The Reef" that sells cardinal tetras for $2.99 ea if you are interested.

I think you can find the help you need here in the forums and it will only cost you the time to type your question and wait for a helpful member to answer, which isn't usually too long. By the way what project are you planning on starting?

Consultant huh? If it's the actual physical setup of your tank, I can help out. I've done tank setup and maintenance before.

If it's just opinions on products and advice, like NeonShrimp said, the forums will be your best bet.

I went there today for the first time. Lots of fish and seemed like good quality. The Asian guy there (boss man) seemed to know his stuff well.

I live only a block away and never noticed it...

Thanks for your suggestions. Since I'm new to this I didn't call any LFS with the name "reef" in it because I assumed they only sold saltwater fish.

I just set up my tank and have a couple fish in it now and I was ready to buy the cardinals but my PH went up to 8 and I have no idea why.

I did call around looking for consultants (or just maintenance services willing to come out 1 or 2 times) and I found a fish store in Fountain Valley on Brookhurst that said he has some cardinals. But I'm going to wait until I can figure this ph thing.

One of the reasons I want someone to come out is to listen to my filters. I bought them used (very good condition - 6 mos. old) and I think they are too loud or mat have air or gravel or something that makes them run loader then normal. Since I'm new to this I have no idea what they should sound like. I have two bilwheel filters and an Eheim 2227 wet/dry canister filter.

Thanks,

Lauren

Just wanted to follow up and tell you that I went to a cool store called Orange Coast Tropical Fish in Fountain Valley and bought cardinal tetras. The store was clean and all the tanks had healthy fish. I was impressed. I bought 24 of the little tiny tetras and so far, 30 hours later they are all doing very good, seemingly healthy, hungry and exploring their new home.

The salesman told me to feed them these tiny pellets that they have been getting. I have a question for you all....these guys are pretty small and if I want them to grow fast should I feed them once or twice a day?

Hi BusyGal,

So your the one that bought all my Cardinals. Just Kidding.
That's a sister store to my favorite LFS for livestock. Which is;
Orange Coast Tropical Fish & Supplies

6881 Western Ave
Buena Park, CA 90621

I went in this past Saturday and ordered 30 for my new tank.
FYI; Their freshwater fish supplier purchases from local breeders!

To answer your question; IMO, fish do better with smaller portions, multiple times a day. Don't know that they'll grow faster.

Enjoy them

Yes, I bought all they had. I went back and bought 8 rummynose tetras.I am really impressed with the store. The tanks and store are clean and the guy is very nice. He said to let him know what I want and he would get it for me. The last fish I want to get for this tank is 3 discus. I really want to support this store.

So far my cardinals are doing great, eating well and growing. My rummynoses are also doing very well although I did lose one (have no idea why). Their noses are bright red and they seem happy!

Honestly, I don't remember. Maybe $2.99? I bought 24 of them. They were really small, but they are growing like weeds and very healthy.

There is a store in Fountain Valley name Tong or Thong, at corner of Magnolia and Warner.
