Anyone know what kind of wood this is?

While on a recent hike through the woods I came upon this piece of wood. My guess it is left over from a flood a couple of years back and it weighs a frigin ton(I didn't think I would ever get it to the road) .
I was wondering how do you determine what kind of wood is it and how do you know it is safe for your aquarium?

Most wood is aquarium safe. For the one's that aren't safe, I'm not sure but there are a few threads if you search for them.

You could always put it in some water and let it sit for bit, then test water conditions after an hour, a day, a week, etc.
