Algae is taking over my moss

Hello I have a nice sized ball of java mos that I cant seem to rid of algae, I want to set up a new 10g tank with it, should I just rip off the algae covered pieces and move it over or wait and try to battle it out in the tank its in?

What type algae?

I have 2 clumps of java moss in my 29 gal. They seem to have developed a symbiotic life style with long hair (filamentous) algae.

I pull as much out every time I do a partial water change, more often when necessary. It grows much faster than the moss.

excel it to death. I spot treat my java moss with Excel and it seems to work pretty well. I can't remember if you technically shouldn't use excel with java moss, but i have run into no ill effects.

nuke it with excell. if its in the 10g 2 caps a day for at least a week should kill it dead. i had a small outbreak in my new tank (85gal) and used 8 caps on 40% wc and 4 caps a day after that. it didnt bother my fish, shrimp, snails or plants and killed tha algae dead. took about 2 weeks for it all to die.
