algea will kill me


hi i have this horrid blue green algea in my tank wich will just keep commin back.

i uping by weekly 10 % water change to 2 weekly .

increased light . less light .

its only on the side of the tank that gets sun in the morning.

i remove about a handfull a week and the stuff stinks and feels like it sorta burns when you hold it for to long

please help

pull down the window shade.

Remove all trace of it and don't hold it for too long.

BGA is pretty easy to get rid of actually.. It's the other types that's a pain.

It sounds like cyano. First thing to do is remove as much as you can. Then do a 3 day blackout - no lights and cover the whole tank with a blanket or something so no light gets in, or you can treat it with erythromycin.

Also, you need to make sure there's NO3 available in the tank. Zero NO3 is a favorable condition for BGA.

Make sure to provide current in the affected area. Still water is a favorable condition for BGA.

Blackouts and Erythromycin are fine for treating BGA but don't remove the favorable environmental conditions.
