I know I've been absent a lot as of late, but this is a change I wholly support and think it is for the better.
I was one of those people who kind of pushed hobbyist to business here at TPT. Others came before me, but after I went a large group of people followed suit. Importing cheap tools, shrimp, plants, etc. This has been great for the hobby, but I think the expense to other hobbyists is real.
This forum is a source of community and information first and foremost. The fact that I've gotten to sell things to the members here for 2 and a half years has been an honor and a privilege that I do not take lightly. NO other forum out there allows businesses to operate like TPT has and still does.
Most forums don't even allow sponsors to post ads of any sort.
I supported the move to segregated SnS sections and I think this is an even better move. Bumping and off topic SnS threads get so out of hand.
I am 150% guilty of this. I made sales threads and bumped every 4 hours and had off topic conversations and whatever I could to keep my threads active. That isn't fair to anyone else and for that I apologize. If your business model depends on it, it is bound to fail anyways. That is all there is to it. Really, if it isn't something you want to pay for anymore, it seems simple enough. I don't see ANYONE here admitting that they are guilty of this. It is a fact. 90% of the sales on this forum come from less than 20 people. Sure, this is a business for Kyle and it is his right to run it as he see's fit. If McDonald's can refuse service, so can TPT.
I don't see anyone listing off the countless other sites where they can post and bump SnS threads over and over and all of the things we're "losing". Other big forums like Cichlid Forum have been doing it this "new" way for a decade.
Thanks to Kyle and the VOLUNTEER moderators of TPT for doing this in a fair, hobbyist-centered way. This is the right move at the right time.
This move proves that it is less about money than ever before.
