Solenoid keeps closing intermittently.

Pretty much as the title says. My solenoid occasionally just stops working and closes as if power has been lost to it. However, it hasn't. It's still plugged in. If i disconnect then reconnect the power it starts to function again. The regulator/solenoid occasionally also makes an erratic ticking noise for 30 seconds or so.

I have it connected through a double adapter and then into a timer for the lights and solenoid.

Has anyone come across this before?

I'd exchange for a new one. It sounds like a faulty wire connection. You can try to open it and fix it.

I second with mistergreen sounds like a loose wire.
Also you state that you have it connected through a {double adapter??} and then into a timer for the lights and solenoid.
Try running the solenoid strait on the wall socket an see if it does the same thing?? Then add the timer and see if does the same thing?
In my setup I have the solenoid connected to a timer by itself on a power bar.
