Eheim 2026 Leaking
My O-Ring for the primer failed big time. It lost a good size chunk and my kids said that it made a loud hiss when it happened. So it was gushing water out of the top of my filter. Nobody around me stocks anything for eheim filters. So my first thought was to take the O-Ring off the filter with me to Tractor Supply. Easy job takes maybe Two minutes to take the filter apart. I found a O-Ring replacement kit made by Omnifilter "safe clean water". It's for some kind of residential water filter. Model K4 is the kit it was like three dollars with tax and had four O-Rings and one looked like it may work. I told them at the checkout what I was trying to do and they said if it don't work for me to return it. So nothing to loose, I'd give it a shot. The O-Ring in the kit was not as thick as the one that failed so I knew It would require a Spacer behind it so it would seal. The primer is like a piston in a engine and the O-Ring is the piston ring that seals against the wall of the cylinder for any motorheads. So I stopped at the dollar store and grabbed a pack of rubber bands. I took one rubber band that fit the the groove on the primer the rubber band was about a 1/16th thick and filled the groove side to side perfect so the O-ring would sit over the rubberband and seal against the wall. Lubed with petrolem jelly and it went together real snug. No leaks and primed perfect so now I can order the O-Ring made by eheim and my tank should be ok till it arrives. I'm gonna go and get a classic next mo and use the 2026 as a spare. Maybe if they did it like a piston and used like three rings on the primer that were infused with something like graphite it wouldn't a issue with so many owners imo anyway cost me 4bucks and everyone is alive in my tank for the time being maybe this will help someone. Took me like a Hour to go find something that would work. I would only use this a crutch due to the rubber band would prob fail due to being soft multiple priming could tear it. I'm sure if I go back out I can find the correct size O-ring. Over 20 dollars for a 25 cent O-Ring is load of $@*^. Eheim should give you a pack and charge under 2 dollars if you require more. It's their mistake why take advantage of the consumer.
