I have 2.
The smaller one has an open shelf area beside a cabinet area with a door.
The larger has cabinets with doors at each end and the center area is open. I have a canister filter sitting there and the back has holes for the tubing.
I think they function well and are attractive.
Remember they are particle board. Particle board doesn't tolerate water well. I always wipe any spills immediately.
Some people will criticize them on the basis of the particle board. I see their point and I think it will depend on how much water you slop.
I went to a "dollar store" and purchased some small plastic bins that I attached to the back of the doors. They make nice shelves for food, test kits, etc.
