I'm stumped between two canisters, I heard really good reviews about both...but I want your views?

 Rex, I know you've told me before...but I've read a lot of reviews and they rate on the line of the Eheim!

i just went thru the whole filter ordeal looking for one for my tank. i finally went with eheim as it was the best rated filter and had the best reputation. I was looking at all types of filters including the ones you made the poll for, i seriously wouldnt get either of them, is there a reason why you want those? If price is a problem, look at the Rena Xp filters, they are the best filter you can get for the price.

Well, I'm not going to pay $150 for a name-brand when an imitation can do the same at a fraction of the cost! I know your going to reply with reliability, but people say there just as reliable! So please just vote

Could you please give us a little more info so we can make an educated vote. It would be nice to know a few things.. like what model canister are you looking at.. and what sized tank is this for.

I seriously don't know what difference the model would do. But I'm going to maybe use the 300 model(210gph) for my 40g tank. And probably the 750(315gph), along with the 300 on my 75g...BUT if the Cascade series are better, I'll use them

This has all the info on all the canisters-

Whoa! Tom Barr said he liked the VivaAqua, it was hardly a glowing review. I read the reviews quickly, and nowhere did they mention the reliability of the filter, unless you call not cleaning your canister for nine months a sign of it's reliability.

I do not see the point in voting on something I have no experience with. I don't think that would help you at all!

My LFS is running a special on Eheims and Renas. For the same $80, you can get a brand spankin' new 2215. No one wants to see you waste your money Raul. Buy what you can afford, but I think you need more information on these filters to make a decision. I know I would.

If you buy one you can become the board's VivaAqua expert!

Seeing as I have no personal experience on these particular canisters I'm reluctant to cast a vote... but from what I have read the ViaAqua is certainly better then the Cascade, but doesn't quite compare to the Quality of the Eheims

An Equivalent Eheim to the ViaAqua 300 would cost you around $100 instead of the $49.99.

Unfortunately its hard to find any concrete usage data on these filters as not many people have adopted them yet. Or the ones that have, simply arent telling people about them. It would be nice to hear from someone who has used one of these fo rmore then a year or two to see what kind of maintenance is required, part replacements, etc. Tom Barr's comments are promising, he isn't one to steer people wrong usually. My only concern is how they hold over extended use.

Please note that Tom Barr said it "seems to be a great filter" None of the reviews said anything about people using them for more than one year. I'm not voting because I have no experience with them. For the money I would go with a Rena, I've heard many good things about them.

The only thing I can add is one LFS got the ViaAqua cannister in and ending up getting most of them back within three months. A Filstar is not that expensive. And if you consider the cost of having the filter fail on you it's just not worth it IMHO to save a few bucks.

Before I bought my Filstar I looked into the ViaAqua and asked around on several boards. I couldn't find a soul that owned one.

My filter hunt had started with the Eheim 2026 which was what I really wanted to get. After doing some research, the Filstar XP3 was getting great reviews and I really couldn't afford the Eheim. So I bought a filstar. At the time the Filstar XP3 was only about $15 more than the ViaAqua. A no brainer IMO.

That being said, I can't vote for either one, since I know nothing about the Cascade and very little about the ViaAqua. I'll vote for a filstar XP3.

Fine, I'll just have to take the adventure...If it goes good, they maybe they are inline with the top; if not, then they'll stay out! Actually, ViaAqua is a company very similar, maybe even joint-stock with Atman..I mean who hasn't heard of an Atman...

 Momo, they guy who bought it for $80 got ripped off...it's for $67 at Big Al's
