I'd like to eventually put one of these on my 10 gallon planted tank. Has anyone used the 2231 before? Do you think it's small enough to use on a 10 gallon?

My little Penguin H.O.B. filter is ok for now, but I'd like less surface agitation. I did put a sponge in the outflow and that almost completely stopped, but I'd like to have a spraybar

I've been running the 2231 on my 10-gallon for approx. 3 months now and so far, no complaints. It doesn't come with the spray bar in the original package so you'll have to pick one up if you opt for one.

Cool! Thanks for your reply

I will just order a spraybar whenever I buy one

umm.. If you are going to set it up for the 10 gallon, and it is rated for aquariums up to 35 g, does this mean that there are some means of reducing the flow rate in this filter?

I am looking to buy a canister filter too, and need all the infromation i can get.

You can by means of the quick disconnects, but that's not too good for the filter in the long run... I just leave it "fully open" and it does fine. The fish and plants don't mind the water movement in the tank at all.

That's what I thought. By limiting the output of the filter, you put more work for the pump.

I've got a 20 gal tank and deciding what to buy, Filstar XP1 or XP2, Fluval 104 or 204 and, may be Eheim ecco 2213.

I vote for the XP2 for the extra media capacity. Also you can run a DIY CO2 reactor on the output side.

And putting the reactor on the output side is a 'good thing'?
