Questions----for a small 15 gal planted tank (high lighting plants) what size tank would you guys (and gals) reccommend(5lb,10lb??) Also with a setup like that how long would a 5 or 10 lb.tank last approximately and how much does refilling cost? While we are at it where do I go for fillups?

I just recently bought the 5 lb tank but refills are easily done for me as there is a welding shop 1 mile from my house.
My suggestion would be to buy the biggest tank you can if it is a hassle for you get refilled ( travel time, work schedule etc. )... also how big a tank will your loved ones let you put in the house !
My wife wasn't to pleased with the 5lb'er BUT... since she new that CO2 was gonna be around in one form or another ( ugly DIY bottles and smell ) , she accepted the smaller version readily... :hehe:
With a 15 Gal Aquarium you will be able to stretch out CO2 longer then say that of a larger tank so I would go with smaller tank... its just easier to hide.
I had a leak that I missed for first week but I should still be getting about 1 month outta this tank... it should go a bit longer without the stupid mistake on my part. I missed one connection in leak test :fire: It costs me about $7 to fill 5lb tank... but thats at this shop... $8.50 at another place I found

Shop around... look up " welding supply shops " in yellow pages and start there... most likely the cheapest you will find... it was for me.

Good Luck

my Lfs has an arrangement with the supplier of their co2 tanks and they do an exchange system it costs about 4 a refill with the tank going back to the original supplier and I get a nice refurbished tank every few months.

That makes it nice , so do you " lease " a bottle from them or do you still have to purchase a bottle ?
This is an interesting concept... you must have quite the shop near you to have such specialties.
Sounds like a place I need... my LFS's love the plastic plants... :hehe::hehe:

I had to buy the tank originally, but the shop owner is a plated tank fanatic who decided that getting his own tanks refiled was proving a little bit of a pain in this area so he did some inquiries with his suppliers and sorted out this arrangement with them.

his shop is very handy for me and very helpful due to him being into plated tanks for many years the main display tank there is a 6'x2'x2' fully planted tank which is one of the best I have ever seen.

he also keeps 2 specialist plant tanks where all the unusual plants are kept under high lighting and with co2 so that they are in perfect health when purchased.

I purchased some Cryptocryne Balansae off him the other day and because they were adjusting to conditions and had lost a few leaves cost me 1 instead of 5 for a pot , within a few days of putting them into my main tank they are putting out new leaves quite readily.

It might have something to do with switching over to the dennerle fert system which is wicked stuff, the A1 daily is very good, all my plants look better than they ever have by a long way, I cannot wait for the delivery of the rest of the bits from them now

I made a few calls today and found a fire extinguisher sales and service that will fill my 10# tank for $8. I won't look any farther. :hehe:
