berkey water filter

i have this small setup for our drinking water at home

yes, they claim its better than RO because it leaves beneficial minerals in the water, so its obviously not RO.

does anyone know how "good"/effective this is compared to RO for water changes for shrimps? and how much effective is having RO water?

I use a big berkey water filter w/ black elements on top and the fluoride removing ones on the bottom. I have chloramine/fluoride treated tap and I don't like to drink it. My aquarium loves it, I love it. I still use a few drops of prime (water conditioner) just in case. It filters very slowly though so keep that in mind. I have a 60p/17 gallon tank and with the big berkey have to fill it up a couple times and wait for it to filter around 2-3 gallons for my water changes a week. I wouldn't be patient enough if I had to do bigger changes than this.

Also be sure to follow the "priming" instructions for new filters. I had to flush out the fluoride filters for a long time before the water was clear.
