is your aquaclear loud as mine?

this is the 2nd one i bought recently for my new tank and it's loud as hell. the motor rattles... what's strange is the first one i bought ever is dead silent. i often check to see it's on. haha

any way to remedy this?

Give it time. Mine rattled pretty bad when it was new, but after a couple months it's almost silent. Need to give the impeller time to grow some gunk around it to act as a lubricant. You can try using vasoline, especially on the shaft, but I've found this to be hit and miss on the AC filters.

Check the rod to see if it's still in it's correct shape. I bought a used one and it was fine, then suddenly started rattling. Found out the rod was terribly worn and it started rattling after the rod snapped.

yup, after googling it real quick (i know...i shouldve done it first), vasoline works like a charm for the sound. dead silent now. now i sleep peacefully.
