CFS 500 or SunSun?

I'm seeing lots of different canister filters on ebay and looks like SunSun\AquaTop 302 filters and the CFS500's are in my ideal price range. Anyone have any long term experience with either? I've read a few reviews saying they are both "okay" but there wasn't any follow up saying how long they lasted or if there was any maintenance problems.

I just broke down my sump and only kept one 29g tank. That one now has a HOB filter on it, so it's time for something a little better.

I've had the 500 for quite a while now. Still going strong. It's pretty much a 5 gallon bucket to fill with media in terms of size.

I 've been leaning towards the CFS500. Anyone else?

I've been running a sunsun 302 for over a year now without a single issue.

i have both. the 500 was on my 55 and the sunsun is on my 20 currently.

both worked great, you can't go wrong with either.

However, I'd recommend the sunsun over the cfs500 for the simple reason that the 500, at least a 1-1.5 years ago, requires a new rubber seal that is not as thick as the stock one. it has been known to crack the connection ports on the lid. over tightening of the lid can also cause issues.

the sunsun is good to go right away.

I have the CFS 500 - been nothing but good to me. Keeps the water clear, starts bubbling when I need to clean the filter - usually about once a month with my heavy bioload

I think the CFS500 would be too much flow for a 29 gal tank, unless you get creative with plumbing, or keep Hillstream loaches.

Don't have experience with the SunSunSun but I believe the flow is a bit more conducive to a 29g.

The original CFS had an issue with lid durability, which has been fixed since. Not sure about the o-rings but it's an easy thing to remedy if you are near a HD or Lowes.

I have a Sunsun, the handles of the baskets suck and can be heck to get out. Plastic nuts over the pipes will crack, so better to replace them before using. One of mine broke, but no leaks. Pumps up water 4ft to my 110g w/o any issues.
