My Kingdom for a CO2 Regulator...

Aaarrrggghhh...that about sums it up.

Having managed to read just about every page on this forum about regulators, I set out looking for a decent deal on one.

I am coming up with nothing, except for a brand new Smith dual stage 35-50-580 for $175 plus shipping (lists for $305). I'd have to spend $5 more and get a 320 nipple and nut.

I wouldn't mind paying a premium for 100% brand new (no questions about what kind of crap has been in it before) but $190 is still pretty steep.

My impatience doesn't help. I'm getting sick of people on fleabay asking more for a used regulator than it lists for new.

Before I get any closer to pulling the trigger on this, does anyone see any problems? I like the pressure range, plus totally new and clean.

To save yourself the trouble of sourcing each parts and assembling it, take a look at the seller list and I'm sure you will a decent one.

I know exactly how you feel, it's hard sourcing the regulator at a price when the other options are cheaper. For 175 dollars, I think you are only about 50 dollars away from one of the custom regulators sold here.

No one buys their regulator retail, they are 500+ up and used in labs or the medical field. Keep in mind, thats just the regulator, you need the 320 nuts and bolt, the metering valve, the fittings.

Either stalk fleabay for some used regulators or buy a custom one here. I'm not sure what other route you can take if you want a custom one. I seen really good regulators for 250 dollars all in one rig, maybe there is one listed.

If you think you have a hard time, think about what folks up north have to deal with. We have to slap on 50 - 100 dollars for shipping.

I got a hydrofarm on Craigslist last week for $45. So far so good

bought a 5lb tank from the beverage factory for $56 plus the $20 fill up so I got myself a pressurized CO2 setup for around $120 total

I feel your pain, I have sworn off Fleabay so I dont shop there anymore and the one I did find on amazon has been sold out for some time. CL in my area is not like other regions where you can actually find "deals"

Very frustrating

I just use a regular Argon/CO2 (it originally could do both) regulator. There's not much to the actual regulator portion. The place you want to spend money is the needle valve.

If you are in a hurry, I would just buy a nice regulator off a member. I have been thinking about building one and find that if you don't look very often, as well as you want it to come together quick, you will get frustrated quickly.

I know how to build one.

In fact, being an engineer, I insist on building my own.

I have serious "control" issues, and have a serious case of DIY-itis.

I am merely lamenting not being able to find one at a decent price.

I'll keep looking.

What would Honey Badger do?

Thanks for the advice, oldpunk! That just increased my number of item finds by a factor of ten. I don't know why the brand name would increase the hits that much, but it sure does. Perhaps, if I can control my impatience for a few days, I will find what I want.

I am kind of fleabay-dumb, if you hadn't noticed.

My Kingdom for a CO2 Regulator...

Look for items that have "make offer" option. Dont worry about the asking price. Just offer them $20 to $30 for a used reg. most of the tome the seller will accept it.

Shoot, you can even haggle when there's no best offer button. The worst they will say is no.

What would Honey Badger do?
