Help! heater Malfunction!

What's the best way to get a tank down from 90 degrees! my heater went last night and nearly took the tank's inhabitants with it! I really need a quick response on this one! I'm doing a bag of ice and trying to slowly drop it as to not cause shock. I really need some advice on this one!

How big a tank?

Run a fan over the water surface. Use the ice.

Slow is the way to go though.
Add an air stone with air pump. Get the water moving with bubbles. More surface area to cool. More gas exchange better for fish.
Now you know why I run 2 heaters at half the wattage each.

Dilution is the solution for the pollution.

I wouldnt do anything to cool it, let it cool off on its own. Increase aeration as much as possible.

It's a 40 tall, I've always got an air stone running just as a precaution, I'm currently icing it, I'll do another bag when this one melts, then ill probably let it cool on its own, my house temp is 70 and I don't think it will get that cool quickly, DEFINATLEY going 2 heaters from now on, I'm not dealing with this again

The tank has been slowly dropping, its probably at 87 at the moment, I have the door open next to it so that should help a bit, it isn't cooling it fast, believe me i'm not that stupid :P, now for the new heater part, I want a reliable one, not like the 20 dollar piece of garbage ones that blow after a few months like this one did, what are you guys/gals using?

There's a ton of threads, and opinions on that here. I've got jagers lately. I've also got a couple of 30 year old supremes going.

I just picked up a new heater for my 75, but i also purchased a heater controller to prevent what just happened to your tank. I feel a little more confident i wont ever come home to cooked fish. Doubtful both the heater and the heater controller would fail at the same time.

You may want to consider a heater controller as well or get two smaller heaters.

Open the windows, let the room get cold.

I'm not into the image, but into the hobby...
