I like the Eheims, very quiet. When first installed the flow, even with the spraybars, were nearly laying the plants down. I drilled the holes a bit bigger, flow was still a bit on the strong side but I was counting on it to slow up a bit once it ran for a while and it did. Spray bars aren't very long, they sit more towards the middle with the intakes at the corners. While the immediate flow out of the filters seem fine, I really wasn't getting good circulation throughout the tank. I added two 425 Koralia Nano pumps, added them to the upper corners and circulation improved.
Something tells me I could use a little more filtration although I may be jumping the gun on this so I'm going to be patient and wait a little longer. My 75 gallon is well established with a Marineland C360 and an Emperor 400 and my water is always crystal clear along with the use of Purigen. I'm not getting quite the clarity in the 125 but like I said, it's still early. The 125 will eventually house some Discus so I'm trying to keep that in mind as I monitor this tank as it matures, meaning, wondering if a Fluval FX5(6) and one 2217 would have been a good choice. We'll see.
This is a picture of the tank right after set up. It has gone through some minor changes, plants have grown in fairly well, just getting over a battle with GSA, now dealing with fuzz algae on the plants. Haven't yet taken the newer pictures off the camera. Contemplating putting pool filter sand across the whole tank, removing the Eco Complete sections, and keeping some hardy low maintenance plants so I can focus on the Discus, maybe 30 - 40% planted. Then, turn the 75 into a high tech tank...... it never ends.
