OK this is a very noob like to ask this question but besides substrate... what other equipment will I need for my planted aquarium. I been noticing alot about CO2 regulators, are they neccesary?
really depends on your lighting setup and the kinds of plants you want to keep. if you setup a low light tank, you have a limited selection of plants you can grow and will not require Co2. The higher lighting the more Co2 you will need and more plants you can keep (also more headache) and don't forget about the ferts
What type of plants do you wish to keep? You need to answer that first. As the post above mentions, some plants require more light than others. The more light you have, the higher the need for pressurized CO2 becomes. Without CO2 on a high light aquarium you will end up growing lots and lots of algae. I would suggest you look at how lush and green some of the low tech (low light, no CO2) tanks are on this forum. You dont have to have high light and pressurized CO2 to have a great looking planted aquarium, although it is more fun
