Lily pipe with canopy?

Hi all,
I plan on making a 20 gallon long tank and use a throttled down 2217 eheim classic with a lily pipe outflow (along with inline heater and cerges reactor). I wanted to use the standard same side mount for my lily pipe and intake however I am wondering what is the best way to go about this while building my canopy?

Has anyone used lily pipes with canopies?

I have lily pipes on my 75g with a canopy. I just used a jigsaw to cut an opening on the side of the canopy. I did it the same way that Jason cut out a hole in his stand in this link.

I don't but should be easy. Drill a hole for each, slightly bigger than the pipe at the desired height. Then just use a jigsaw or similar to extend that to the bottom of the hood.

I would also consider moving the outflow to the back. It will function basically the same but then you only have one noticeable cut to your hood.

Also, if you do this be very careful when removing your hood, I've seen too many messes from glass lily pipes to be comfortable with the idea

Thanks guys. I think that I will just set up the tank first and then position the lily pipe and test it in different spots and once I'm satisfied, I'll find its "permanent location" and then make the canopy. Sounds safe haha
