Co2 defuser question

Hi all

I have a CO2 defuser similar to the linked photo. It's also the bubble counter. The instruction say to half fill it with water (so you can count the bubbles) but it always fills all the way to the top within and hour or so. This means there is virtually no air in the compartment.

So my question: is there a reason and a way to stop it filling with water (I had one many years ago which did not); and also, does it actually make any difference if it is half full or not?

Cheers

Just use a check valve in the line after bubble counter and before diffuser....

I've found that these types of diffusers are inaccurate in terms of providing a bubble count. The pressure at the top near the diffuser is different than the pressure nearest the nossel of the CO2 tank because the diffuser is squeezing the bubbles and restricting them a bit. Try using an inline bubble counter and you'll be a lot more confident in your readings.

Sorry I don't understand either of these replies. The bubble counter and the defuser are combined, not separate. My question is, why does the defuser fill completely with water even though the instructions say to half fill it. And second, will having no air in the top part of the chamber stop it working properly?

Cheers

To me, those instructions seem strange; the diffuser that you have will naturally fill with water with time. As mentioned, I would get a separate bubble counter so you can count the bubbles (if you really want to).

Having no air in the top part of the diffuser will not stop it from functioning properly.

thanks for the reply. I was just wondering though, even if it is full of water I can still see the bubbles going up from the base, so is there any advantage having an external bubble counter?

Also, do you know anything about the ADA drop checker?
