I use Aquaclear filters and have then entire line from ac20 through 110 running in my tanks as this is written. The design is tried and true as its simplicity is its strength yet there is room for improvement.
The alternative that I have been considering is the Fluval C3. This is a quote taken from one of the amazn reviews that peaked my interest, as may yours "the first true integrated wet dry system on a HOB filter!"
Other thoughtful features:
telescopic intake tube, eliminates need for extension pipes or keeping accessories stored around somewhere.
Uses same motors as AC
Indicator on the mechanical filtration to remind when cleaning is needed
two stage sponge (course/fine) to stop particles from seeping into next stage.
cheaper than AC of comparable size (GPH)
As a side comment, product advice will always be more meaningful if they are substantiated as to why one is good or better than another. After all, we are trying to help with advice as this isn't a vote for nor against any products.
