Heater recommendation?

I've started up a 10 gallon planted tank in the basement but the water is too cold to put any fish in. I haven't checked the temperature recently but its probably in the low 60s.

Anyway, what heater would you recommend? I want something that is completely submersible.

I have a Theo heater in a 10 gallon with no issue.

All my larger tanks have Eheim Jager heaters which IMO are the best. Always keep my tanks at a stable temp.

Any heater will work fine, though I'd stay away from the Marineland Stealth line for now. Jagers are top of the line, and not much more expensive than a no-name brand. I'd suggest a 100w to be on the safe side. You'll probably be increasing temps 15-20 degrees, so a 50w might not cut it.

They have discontinued the marineland "stealth" heaters and now only offer 'visitherm" products.

I paid big dollars for my 300W Rena for my 145 Gal... But I wouldn't trust my tank to anything else after seeing one of those Stealth Pros explode

Try a different shop?

I'm guessing that there are a few chains that have the monopoly of in the states... I'd go and see your back shed "mom and pop" fish store and talk to them... They often have the ability to order parts for you etc... It generally costs a little more... but at the end of the day, your putting food on the table for somebody who REALLY loves their fish and often enough you have a good chinwag with them and pick up a new tip or trick for your own tank.

Don't ever think you have heard it all my friends... particularly since the advice someone gives you from halfway across the world might stop you from doing the things the way you did in your original location and causing mass die offs.

Otherwise, the internet is an amazing place to shop!

I still have $40 amazon gift certificate from Christmas.

I want to invest in a good heater. Are these Fluval heaters any good? http://www.amazon.com/Fluval-300-Wat...1006780&sr=1-2

What about Hydor?

EDIT: I've already spent plenty of money on stuff for this tank so I don't mind spending money on a more premium heater as long as it works well and is reliable. Not to mention I have an $40 for amazon.
