Yeah, after that incident, I have secured the toe section of a piece of pantyhose over the end of the tube to act as a strainer.

I use a piece of netting over my python too, but it's a pain when I actually want to syphon something up. Unfortunately for some reason my killies are absolutely fascinated by the python and using it without some sort of screen just isn't an option.

So then I end up having to swirl my net around to scoop up any debris that's bothering me.
