i would cut the spray bar to fit the tank to go from side to side, having only the pressure on the one side blowing to the front will not move water around the tank like you want and hence why the betta can not swim well in that side is due to how strong the current is on that one side.
Bump: here is how i had my 2215 on my 75g for the longest time and it was doing well flowing out on the top and sucking it back to it on the bottom in a circle in the tank. look at the right side of the tank. i have two filters on mine right now so ignore the left one.
I cannot find the switch, my beta is really worried and trying to hide from the strong current.
Are you folks instructing me to look at the spray bar I made more small for a valve? If so, anyone have a picture or an idea on if it's close to the part that's submerged in the tank?
take the spray bar and put it to flow length wise into the tank like mine is then keep the intake next to it on the bottom it will make the current in the whole tank more equal and have no dead spots. !do not close the valve on your filter as it can build up pressure and pop the top off of some! happens when the filter can push the pressure enough or if you have a ceramic shaft it can break them from unequal load on one side of shaft(back pressure possible) worst i have had was a clip on my 2215 broke free with the 2217 impeller inside of it.
post a photo of you tank and i will be able to determine exactly what you need to do other wise i think you are overthinking this and getting more confused.
filtration and flow are two very separate things sir, filtration is how well it cleans, flow is just how fast it turns over amount of water, being that he has a basket design it will flow faster more than it will clean which is why i recommend going a little smaller and using the eheim classics because they clean so well, you don't need to have it full blast for the same tank look.
Oh, now I get it - So the more filtration is not a bad thing, but more flow is!
I don't want to stress out my only fish, but for now it seems like he is use to the flow with the water hitting my glass instead of spraying towards the tank; Should I wait it out a little, or should I record a five minute video of how he swims so you folks can help me decide?

if you are talking about a circulation pump all that does is move water around, so you don't have a area with little flow. also the heater you linked is pretty good for the price, just make sure to check it with a thermometer for accuracy. also i like to try and put black backgrounds on my tanks so they help the fish get darker/more colorful.
Bump: also you could get some dwarf gourami, white cloud minnows, neon tetras, cherry barbs, ect to accompany the betta
I am seriously thankful for you and everyone else who comes to this forum.
You don't know how happy I am to be getting help and not being ignored.
I hope one day you get just as much as help, if not more, when you are in need of it!
I will go ahead and just let you know this tank has only been running for two days, so I am not sure if it is save to put live stock in it.
I don't have any test kits, I am somewhat worried about this..should I go buy some? If so, any brand in particular? *I can go to petco or smartsmart / or local fish store*
EDIT 4/30/16 @ 4:12PM PST
Let me know what you think about my fish or if I need to record another three-five minute video with him swimming near the left side of the tank where the exhaust spray is.

test kits are a good idea, just make sure you check the exp date on them if it is the liquid dropper ones if you are going to keep the tank below 80 degrees i recommend putting a few neons or white clouds in every week once the water parameters are in check, reason you want to do a few at a time is so the biological bacteria have time to colonize in between fish loads
just remember there are a lot of different gouramis and only a few are dwarfs(can come in more colors than most people think)
best looking tetra i have seen is a Black Darter Tetra(black morpho tetra) Scientific Name: Poecilocharax weitzmani very hard to find in a good gene pool. embers and blood fins are good schooling ones
Peep out my beta while I go show some love to my local fish stores and see if they have a worthy heater so I don't have to wait for amazon to ship one.
I've always wanted a crab or lobster in my tank, I saw one for sale for $45.. is it hard to keep alive?
