I came back from class and saw a dead dry shrimp on the floor assuming that it jumped out of my tank because of my Betta fish chasing it and then realized that there are shrimp eggs on the bottom of the tank next to a rock. I'm assuming that these are the dead shrimp's eggs because it's been abandon. Will these eggs hatch without a mother shrimp nursing them?
If those are shrimp eggs they might hatch without the mother, but they need to be put in an area where they receive a strong current and won't get eaten.
Chances are low but you have to place in a small net and either have an airstone running under it to keep the eggs moving (simulating the mothers fanning to keep mold from growing)
Well, now it's buried into my HC carpet, doesn't seem like anything will eat it. So pretty much, if there's no mother to stimulate them, they won't hatch?
Bettas and shrimps don't do well together. Bettas are predators and will harass them incessantly. Due to the presence of a predator, shrimps also tend not to breed.
I was just gonna say....your problem to begin with is: the betta. Bettas all have unique personalities but if you find dead shrimps or abandoned eggs, it's def the betta!
Yea, ive had 2 siamese algae eaters, 3 danios, 4 shrimps, all either jumped out of the tank or bitten by the betta. Its definitely time to move him to another tank. I left him in there to give him a chance....this was the last one...
I've heard good review based on this site. It seems pretty reasonable. I didn't think about it when I lost two sets back to back and have regretted not trying this ever sense.
Here is the best information I have ever got about shrimp keeping.
If it fits in the mouth, it will be eaten.
I had 5 CPD juvies eat an entire 30 strong shrimp colony in 3 weeks.
Its best for their surivial and health to do shrimp only tanks. Shrimp are prey, and they will hide all the time from predators (fish). They might not kill a shrimp outright, but they can rip legs, antenna and tails off. that is not very pleasant.
