Going to try CRS shrimp
I'm setting up a 20L tank for shrimp - I've successfully kept thousands of ghost shrimp in my current tanks (I have a 1/2 acre pond on my land that has a very healthy population of ghost shrimp - I introduced them to my turtle tanks 2 years ago and still have a good population - even after what the turtles can catch)!
I'm really wanting to try CRS shrimp, have all the equipment minus the substrate. I have sponge filters ready to go from a 2 year old tank. My PH is my main concern at 7.4. I'm not willing to do ROI water again - did it for 8 years for my old reef tank and my wife got sick of my trash can in our spare bathroom collecting water. I ditched that setup and the reef tank, but am really enjoying my current freshwater tanks - but now I want a new challenge!
Some seem to keep and breed CRS in these higher PH conditions, but I'd prefer to lower it a bit. I really want some Amazonia, but just can't bring myself to pay more for the shipping than the substrate.
Any contacts for Amazonia with better shipping rates? I'm in the Houston, Texas area, and from the local places I've called it looks like it's not imported much at all these days!
Or - any Houston folks that have been successful with our PH tap water?
