weird looking blue bolt baby.

This is a picture I just took of my Blue bolt baby. Mother was a golden and father a BKK. When this baby was born it had orange eyes and was a deep turq blue. I just snapped a pic of it today, and it has what appears to be some headgear.

Its the weirdest thing Ive seen, Im not sure what to make of this, so if anyone else has had this happen, please show me pics of your baby and what it turned out like as an adult. So I can get an idea of what might happen as this one matures....because Im stumped

picture about a few days old.

taken this am. Middle pic is with a flash, top 2 pics without flash...headgear is still there.

Many would just consider that a snow.

Often a BB is viewed as full hood low grade, and full body high grade.

Its definitely not a snow...that 1st pic was taken when it was born. My snow babies are white at birth and just get more solid white as they mature.

I think it will get darker as it matures, and maybe that's the beginning of the head color starting.

It just looked like it was wearing a pair of earphones to me

"As there is a graduation from pure white to pure blue with these shrimp, it is disputed as to at what point the shrimp is no longer considered a ‘Snow White’ shrimp but a ‘Blue Bolt’ instead. " http://atyidae.wordpress.com/780-2/

Bob used to have a great picture on AB of the snows he was selling having different colors of headgear- including blue.

Heck, there's even an argument as to if they are TB at all. Interesting article about blue bolts But you know us shrimpers LOVE to speculate. LOL

However, Silane states that if you take your type of shrimp and breed it with KK, you will get some BB in the offspring. Something to consider?

That is very interesting. I always thought the BB looked more in body type to the Snow/Golden Bees, with just a blue tinge added to them in varying degrees.

This would account for why people are getting blue bolts from a cross of Golden x BKK (in my case this is what happened) However in the same batch of babies were BKKs, Blue BKKs, Snow whites (definite white) and Blue Bolts.

I guess I should keep the two of these that I have and breed them back to the Bkks to see what else comes out of that pot.

Thanks for explaining in detail the article about them.

I have to say that I do like Blue Bolts the best though.

Heck, I just like shrimp. Blue Bolts, blue snows, kk and many other colors included!

Would you keep us updated on any kk mating that may happen from your snow/BB? This would be fascinating to follow.

I have had golden babies like that. The blue color did not last into adulthood.

I will keep you updated on their growth.

On another note my white legged CRS mosura female is berried and bred to a BKK. I cannot wait to see what comes out of this pot
