Very strange deaths in RCS tank
I've had about four shrimp deaths in the last two weeks, for no discernible reason. They all seem to be low grade shrimp and/or males. The higher-grade shrimp and shrimplets have all been A-Ok. I'm not unduly worried because of that fact.
Any idea why low-grade shrimp would kick it, but higher-grade individuals and shrimplets would be unfazed? The snails and otos int he tank haven't shown issues wither, and the shrimplets are growing really fast and putting on color (they're my first batch of shrimplets so I don't now where they should be at this age).
I don't dose any water buffer, hardener, etc. I (over)fertilize twice a week, but I don't use Excel in the tank. There is CO2 injection while the lights are on, and I haven't fed the tank in a few weeks due to a hair algae outbreak.
The only large changes I can think of are removing filter carbon in favor of more biomedia a couple weeks ago, as well as topping up with dechlorinated tap instead of RO water.
