I moved over to Amazonia ii just recently from using clay aquasoil (turface) with peat moss layered in between to keep PH low. I left my
tank for a month, checking the ammonia levels, doing water changes etc.
I finally tried a few low grade shrimps in it to see how they would handle it and all were fine after a week, so I put my Taiwans in there. To date I have 4 of my females berried (that's all the females I have, the rest are too young) and I have new babies that were born in a breeder box attached to the tank, now living and growing good in this tank, so something works.
I don't check my TDS only ammonia and PH levels and use RO/Tap water.
My plants are growing crazy in this tank, more so that ever before and I have no CO2 on this one or high light, but my mosses are thick and lush.
I have at least 40 Taiwans in there.
