Quick BB Question

I am giving a filter and heater to a young person who wants to try his hand with dwarf shrimp. I'm shipping Priority so it should take two to three days.

The tank the filter is in now is fully cycled. My question: If I wrap the filter bag so it won't dry out can he use it to jump start his cycle? If the answer is "yes," would he need to add something to to his aquarium to help the BB since it will be a fishless cycle?

I know this might seem a silly question with an obvious answer, but I don't want to steer him wrong.

Thank you so much.

Some of the bacteria may survive the trip but there won't be enough to really do much for the 'cycle'.

The best bet for shrimp would be for them to do a fishless cycle for 4-6 weeks. Just adding a bit of ammonia to a tank and letting it do its thing will work well for them.

Thank you. That's what I thought but wasn't sure.
