Yeah, you'll definitely want a buffering substrate for shrimp like that (I'm assuming you're new to the shrimp hobby?) so you don't have wild parameter swings.
Aquasoil, UP Aqua Shrimp Sand, Azoo Plant Grower Bed, et al.
Buffering soils are used to make maintaining water quality easier. If what you have out of the tap is fine, then you don't NEED to buy it unless you want it to be easier.
Actually I do get successful with ADA AquaSoil Amazon, good couple batch of babies from CRS/CBS in SSS grade. I just curious about the sand, because I know a person using the sand for his CRS in SS, he got good results .. so it's making me like "WoW"
depends on the water parameters and the shrimp. if they have natrualy low ph then there is not need for a buffering substrate. a friend of mine has a ph of 5 when it measures so she doesnt need a substrate to buffer
