Prohibited lists by State

OKay folks, this is probably one of the most important threads we as hobbyists have to know. Recently I've been hit up by people who live in Hawaii to send shrimp there. It's illegal. Shrimp shipping to Hawaii

So, we know shipping shrimp to Hawaii is illegal...

It is also illegal to ship shrimp OUT of the US for the average person.

What other places is it legal/illegal to ship shrimp?

Below are prohibited lists that say yes or no to shrimp (among other animals.) In a worse case scenario you can use these as proof if you get questioned.

I'm pretty sure it's just Hawaii. Not sure about Alaska but since I don't think there is any priority mail out that way, except if you're going to pay $500 or something during the warmer months, you probably wouldn't want to ship there.

Not sure if it's illegal to ship to Canada or not, or if you just need a permit, or most just don't because of DOA guarantee's and if customs holds it or it takes too long, they don't want to responsible. AlphaProBreeders ships to Canada by overnight Fedex. I believe the Benibachi guy said he would ship to Canada, but no guarantee would be offered. Don't know all the logistics of it though, and I know our laws have just changed recently, but I'm not sure how they changed or what the difference is, just saw a quick mention on a local forum. Not a huge deal for me, there is several stores about an hour or so away that sell all kinds of shrimp as well as a few people in that same area that are doing their own breeding/importing and have everything from TB's to Royal Blues to Carbon Rili's to everything in between, so I can drive an hour and go get any of those and I also can order from Ebi-Ken too if I am ordering a big order of shrimp.

20g platy, , 2 x 10g shrimp, 3 x 20g shrimp, 7.5g shrimp and 1 great dane/mastiff puppy.

I remember seeing someone shipped shrimp to Alaska via USPS and it took 4 days. (?) Again, not sure of the laws concerning Alaska though.

Interesting thing about Canada. It used to be that Canada could ship here without any permit I think it was (?), but shrimp had to go through the typical port of entry thang here. Not sure about the reverse or what the laws have changed to now.

The Florida DFWS should be an interesting place to consult as would all of the gulf coast states. It wouldn't surprise me much if they have shrimp species on a restricted or banned list.

For FL nothing about shrimp, quite a few crays are considered illegal though as well as one or two crabs.

I'm going to update the original post to have All 50 dates prohibited lists. If anyone could help by providing links, that would be great!

Just a note about linking to prohibited lists: they're constantly outdated, updating, links dying, legislation changing.

Almost always easier just to direct folks to their state government (I.E., a link to state agencies) to confirm what's okay to move across state lines.

I thought about that, however too many folks won't follow through with searching within their own state websites. Direct links can always be updated, but at least they are direct for now.

Looks like it may be illegal to bring shrimp into Alaska. It isn't on the "clean list."

You know the funny thing is that Shrimp are Legal in Hawaii to own. However the loops they make you go through to obtain permits for importing/exporting can be rather expensive and extensive.

It would look that way, wouldn't it?

It's really not that though. I'm just tired of people putting themselves in a position where they may be in trouble by doing illegal things without realizing it.
