White lines on RCS

What do the white lines mean that appear on RCS?

1) the white line that can run from the tip of their tail to the tip of their head.
2) the small white line which can run over their shoulders (/saddle area)

I was wondering the same thing the other day.

I have one with a real definitive line from tail to head right along the back.

I do not think they serve any particular purpose. They tend to only appear on females, and older females, at that.

The racing stripe is genetic.

*sigh* There is a myth often stated on this forum, that states the racing stripe only appears on older fems. (Not directed at you DarkBlade). While sometimes this may be the case, many have it showing by juvie-early adult stage. This is how Neon Yellows were bred.

As far as the clear line on the shoulders, some speculation currently suggests it is a sign of growing fast.

It's not so much a myth as it is dependent upon genetic strain, as you suggest.

It's quite pronounced in some of my Neos as they age (that's when it often becomes most apparent). Some never develop it.

I've seen it on my older male and female fire reds. Never given it much thought. Some got it some didn't

I've was always told that the white line around the body in the saddle area is a pre-molt indicator.

Saddle area line means your water is not optimal for the shrimp. They're having molting issues and will probably die later down the line. Your water may be too soft or too hard. What's your water params?
