Most mischlings look like low grade because the whole reason to make mischlings was to make a hardier bkk by crossing hem with healthy (aka low grade) stock.

The white is the same as normal crs, not bad quality

But if you cross bkk with sss crs, they will be half s grade, and the other half will be high grade.

Would all mischlings look completely like low grade CRS or CBS or could they look differently? That may be what you are getting at.
You are correct the BKK x CRS = Mischlings. The reason I've brought it up is because you suspect you have a red bolt out of two CRS. So if you think the male is a Mischling, then the female must also carry the TB recessive gene too for red bolt to pop out.

You misunderstood. I have a male in the tank I suspect is a red bolt. The female is an SS grade CRS. I don't suspect I have a red bolt out of two CRS, no.

So wait, you just lost me. A BKK crossed with a CRS (grade regardless) won't result in mschiling? What do you mean by 'the other half will be high grade'? High grade what?

The mischlings will be half s grade, half ss and sss grade.

Mischling doesn'thave to be low grade

My point is, a mischling can look like a c grade, or an sss flower head PRL, there's no way to physically tell the difference between a mischling and a normal crs.

No problem.

This is why I don't raise mischling anymore, and I don't suggest anyone else does either. All it does is complicate things and waste time (if youare wanting to raise ttaiwan bee). I bought 20 mischling from Michael Nadal back a few years ago and got maybe 5 taiwan bees out of them after a year (They must have been f2 or f3 mischlings) Spent the same money on 4 bkks and got hundreds of bkk babies from them.

Very interesting and good to know Liam as I have a BKK and 5 or 6 mischlings on order. If it were you, would you just go with straight BKK and skip the mischlings altogether?

Do you have any other taiwan bees?

Basically id start with 4 bkk if I was to do it over again and skip mischlings altogether. Because guess what, at most you'llever get (with f1 the best kind of mischlin) is 25% tb offoffspring, but with bkk you get 100% tb offspring.

If you have some other taiwan bees, just add a few more bkk to them.

I think the red bolt you are inrefernce is probably a low grade Snow white. From the first time you posted pictures. Not to question you but the chance of getting those out of the stock we have state side, is extremely slim to none

I see, well do what you can afford. I understand the attraction to mischlings price wise, just don't expect too much and you might be pleasantly surprised when you spot a baby bkk or baby blue bolt wandering around!

How do you think Taiwan breeders got their Taiwan Bees to become SO hardy compared to a few years ago? You guessed it, buy consistently breeding them back with Mischlings. Mischlings are damn ugly but they also make the TB gene that much stronger by adding new blood into the line. I barely started breeding my Mischlings (from Taiwan) less than 6 months ago with my TBs and I'm already seeing plenty of TB babies from them. Everyone has their own experiences.
