shrimp in my HOB, you too?

SO I have a shrimp tank with an Aquaclear 30 HOB. Just recently I planted the filter, but this has been going on long before that. Pretty much every time I take the media out of the filter, I find either a RCS, CRS/CBS, or little Amano in the space under the media 'basket'!

Today I am sitting here and flash of white/red caught my eye on the plastic grid moss spillway of my HOB - It is a full size CRS trying to wedge under that grid to get into the filter, and a half-size CBS is already in there and steadily making its way down between the media and the filter housing - heading for that open area at the bottom of the filter under the media! Anyone else see shrimp doing this? What's the draw - exploration, thrills, good eatin'?

Do you have a prefilter over your intake? Are they getting sucked up through the tube or climbing in out of the water up the upflow. I've found they get both ways, and even with a sponge filter on the intake, I think they climb around the edge unless it's ziptied on, somehow make it past the impeller and end up in the HOB.

I think it's good eats that draw them there. Smell something tasty and go for it, at all costs. lol.

20g platy, , 2 x 10g shrimp, 3 x 20g shrimp, 7.5g shrimp and 1 great dane/mastiff puppy.

Yep - Fluval foam pre-filter with ziptie.

Today was the first day I actually caught them climbing the outflow and squeezing into the HOB itself I inadvertently made it easier for them now with a riccia/moss mat outflow.

Yup, my cherries would do this all the time. They even started having babies in there. I eventually took them all out and returned them to the tank, then lowered the water level. Haven't had a problem with it since, though MTS continue to find their way in there.

I've actually found them in canisters that were outfitted with prefilters.

Mine do it too. Mostly the Amanos. I'm going to put another piece of filter material blocking the outflow so they can't get in. One of my Amanos jumped out of my hand when I tried to get him back in the tank

That tank really tied the room together

I found 7 of them plus 5-10 babies in my marina slim filter...it's only a 5.5 gallon tank so I was wondering where they had gone...I have a sponge on the filter, but they must want to get in to munch on the scum in there
