be aware that UGF will shorten the life of your active substrate buffering. otherwise its a good choice. it may even make your substrate safer?

If I go with the underground filter (AZOO Pipes) do I hook it up to my canister or use a power head?
You can use a HOB instead of the power head.

If success or failure of this planet and of human beings depended on how I am and what I do. How would I be? What would I do?

Ok…. I just purchased my ADA AS substrate. I can’t wait until it comes in. I am supper excited.

I only have one more question at this time. Does anyone siphon there substrate in a shrimp tank? It just sounds dangerous with all the babies running around those little crevices of the substrate. If you do please go into detail on how you avoid sucking up the babies when doing your water change.

Most folks generally recommend against disturbing the substrate at all in shrimp tanks.

Canister hookup is a must in when using UGFs. You want the bio filtration for the shcrimpz.

The only time I even touch the substrate is if I'm redoing the tank.

Yes, do Not touch the substrate when shrimp are in there. no need to vacuum it. just pass the vac over it gently if you need to do a water change. vacs can always suck up shrimp so be very careful when doing water changes.

Can it really be that easy?

Do this and redo their tank. Get ADA AS and call it a day. Keep it simple, not too many plants, mainly moss and you'll be gravy.

Ok… the ADA AS has been in the tank for 3 days and I am going to do my first 100% WC tonight after work. Once it is full I am going to plant the hell out of it. Mostly mosses, but going to keep the Dwarf Sag.

The remaining 7 SSS CBS are doing fine in the bucket. The temp is rising just a bit though. I will put the fan on it to.
