Smile Crayfish, Crawfish, or Crawdads?

Just a silly something because I have been curious about this for a while:

How do you refer to crayfish/crawfish/or as we call them out here in the boonies, crawdads?

"Less bad" does not equal "good".

Depends on who I'm talking to -- I use all three interchangeably. :-)

When I'm at school (biology), the correct term is crayfish. When I'm out and about it's always crawfish down here in New Orleans. I do sometimes see crawdads on signs, but mostly people just say crawfish.

I use it depending on the situation...

if its to keep as a pet its gonna be crayfish

if I'm gonna eat it, crawfish

if its gonna be bait crawdaddy

but crawfish and crawdaddy are usually used in the south.

Depending upon where you are in rural America, it could also be "crawfeeesh" - like in my hometown in middle-of-nowhere Appalachia.
