I have seen a lot of people with pictures of just normal tree leaves in there shrimp tanks for them to feast on. I was just wondering what leaves are considered to be ok for them? I'm no tree expert so I wouldn't know if a tree could be poisones to the shrimp?
So would say a maple leaf or oak leaf be ok for them?
hard wood I collect maple and oak. That being said, I much prefer almond leaves as they are "thicker" and last longer. They also stay put better in a tank where the domestic leaves seem to "blow around" more.
As said, maple, oak, and Indian almond leaves will work. My cousin over in India has recently been using jack fruit leaves and apparently, they work better for softening water, although I'm not sure where most american hobbyists ('cept me!) would get jack fruit leaves. lol.
Also, if you decide to collect your own, do not collect them near polluted areas like highways, cities, etc. Your best choice would be a nature trail or a local state park, away from pollution.
I'm just getting them from my back yard. I have never used anything bad on then in 10 years so I trust them. Plus birds eat the apples that grow on them.
