OK, chalk this one up for the Weird Files.
I have 2.5 gallon tank with a 'satellite' 1.6 gallon tub that has an AQ 20 HOB filter with an emergent Water Sprite growing in the filter basket. Right next to the 2.5 gallon tank is an old 4.5 gallon Pemco vintage stainless steel tank which is home to about 12 young Danios. The fronds from the 2.5 have grown quite a bit and are now trailing in the 4.5 gallon tank. I've been noticing one of my BCS has gone missing, well it's now living in the 4.5, it seems quite happy there.
From what I've read, most miniature shrimp, (that are not Amanos..) usually are not going to escape from their tanks. Yet here is this former resident from the 2.5 in the 4.5? Can they do short excursions up plant stems (that are in air, not water..) to other water sources? It's about a 2 to 3 inch distance with about a 1.5" climb into the other tank. The only thing I can figure is that this shrimp climbed up against the slow water current in the filter's overflow, then pulled itself out of the filter's water and walked to the other tank on the stem. Not sure how many tries this took?
