I used to build regular box-like enclosures for AH Supply lights, but those require fans, and I don't like to listen to fans. Also, I tend to be busy these days and can't spend a couple of weekends making finger joints.
This one was under my 20 minute limit. I took a scrap piece of mahogany, drilled a 1 inch hole in it to allow the wires to go thru, then attached it to some walnut offcuts with drywall screws. This would actually be a great light with two modifications, (1) make the top piece long enough so that the ends rest on the aquarium sides instead of the glass and (2) cut rabbets in the inner sides of the walnut pieces so it would grip the sides and not be able to slip sideways off the aquarium sides. As it is, I can't work in the tank without taking the light off, and I like to work with the lights on.
This one is at least long enough to sit on the edge of the aquarium, though it is not very secure. It fit my main criteria of being buildable in 20 minutes from scraps I could find in the garage.
