canister filters?

What is the difference between power filters like AquaClear and canister filters like Eheim... They basically do the same thing... The GPH is relatively the same, yet everyone thinks canister filters are so much better (more expensive too) and why is that?

-are easily hidden below the aquarium or elsewhere
-can be quieter
-Don't push the aquarium far from the wall (or sit on the side = unsightly)
-don't have to agitate the water surface, losing CO2 in the process
-have more room for media = better filtration

HOB, "Power" Filters
-Less $
-Easier to reach the media

I would add:
Canisters also have the capability to hook up various components in-line. I run a sterilizer, CO2 reactor, and an external heater through the output. That, in addition to filtration, is a lot of water conditioning/treatment. Yet the only hardware in my tank is the intake and the output.
I've used HOB's for 20 my first canister a few months ago, and never plan on looking back.

Cannisters also usually have return spray bars that you can put deep in the water. This makes it to where the surface isn't aggitated and it keeps more co2 in your water column (if you are injecting).
