Hmm, well, I guess it depends on a few different factors. In my regular, I have Java Moss, Java Fern, Water Sprite, Dwarf Sag, and an Ozelot sword. I currently am not using any chemicals, as it has been recently set up, and is currently cycling. It has your basic lighting 1.5 wpg. On my 10 tall, I have 2-3 kinds of crypts, another ozelot sword, some contortunist vals, some java moss, and some cabomba. Yet again, no special lighting, just another 15 watt bulb (I think, I actually have never checked. But, I have laterite mixed in the gravel of this tank, the crypts are thriving! Makes for a beautiful center piece. I also have a 12 gallon, with an Ozelot sword (seeing a theme yet?), some water sprite, some vals, Java Moss, Java Fern, and some sorta grass thingy that I got a few days ago... I haven't quite figured out what it is yet... This tank has a Eclipse hood on it, so, it gets rughly 2-2.5 wpg ( I'm not exactually sure how much, it's a 25 watt bulb). This tank gets dosed with Leaf Zone, when I remember. If your lighting is incandescent, I suggest water sprite, java moss, java fern, and aponogetons have seemed to fair well under such low light...

Those are some gorgeous tanks! I've got a 2.5g planted tank here at work with a small whisper filter and a 13W PC swing-arm light. Plants are growing well but I can't get algae eaters to live for very long in this tank. I need to try some ottos in there.

do you feed the algae eaters anything after they have munched up all the algae?

Definitely! A small tank doesn't have enough algae to sustain even a few small ottos. An algae wafer a week might be all they need to keep going. I tried keeping several types of algae eaters without algae wafers and they all inevitably starved to death (while the rest of the fish in the tank thrived).

Same experience here. I thought my water quality was bad or something because I was going through Temminkii plecos like they were toilet paper.

Hi.
