Preventing hard water stains.......

Been doing tank maintenance this weekend and I am down to cleaning the glass tops. They get water deposits from the HOB's, so it's a scrape and scrub thing once a week. I was wondering if coating them with a good hard car wax would prevent the buildup? Something like good old fashioned paste turtle wax. It would be clear when polished, easy to remove and reapply if needed, should be fish safe after it dries. Anyone try this before or have any other ideas? I would go topless but this tank sits close to the floor and the dogs would love the 75g water bowl/swimming pool.

125g makeover ,2x75g, 55g, 40g breeder, 29g, 2x10g, 100g stock pond..........MTS ? Nahhhhhh Just acquired a 150g tall and a 30g long

im not sure if this will be safe so i am going to look into it more.. but i was thinking of trying food grade machine oil,, which is just basically mineral oil. i use it all the time at work on the plastic/glass shelves and on the stainless steel. since i started doing it i havent seen any hard water stains at all.. it is perfectly safe for people(not necessarily for fish though) now just to find out how safe it would be for aquariums.

if anyone has tried this or looked into it please let me know

I think most organics would degrade under spectral lighting and contaminate(acidify?) water. Experiment with reducing agitation by adding buffers to outflow. I don't mind the stains, I sometimes just keep the lid off when Im home and place it when Im out.
