Hey everyone back to the drawing board for the third time. I recently tore down my 29 gallon which I set up two separate occasions. Had decent success and now am staring at a 40b that will be getting filled up this week.
Size- 40 gallon breeder
Lighting- corallife 30 inch 4 bulb t5ho fixture. 2- 6700k bulbs 2- 10000k bulbs
Sub straight- aquasoil new amazon.
Co2- 5 lbs tank Milwaukee regulator. Inline diffuser
Filtration- hydor 350 canister filter power heads if I think I need them.
Heater- hydor inline heater.
Now hear are a couple questions I have.
1. I plan on suspending my light fixture. What do you think would be a good starting height for the light? 20 inches from sub straight? I would like to use all 4 bulbs so maybe higher?
2. Aquasoil is a new thing for me I have only used Eco complete in my previous tanks. I ordered 5 bags total thinking I should be able to get 2.5 - 3 inches deep. So here is what worries me. The ammonia that it gives off right away is pretty brutal from what I have seen all over the forum. Should I be doing daily water changes say 50% or so? And for how long will I battle that spike and can relax on the water changes?
3. I already have dry ferts from my previous tanks. When should I start dosing ei? I have a feeling the water column will be nutrient rich for at least a week or two? Or should I start feeding the beast right away? I have a feeling this ill have to just keep an eye on my plants.
Plants I will be using for initial plant are here-
5x Alternanthera Reineckii 'Rosaefolia'
5x Rotala mini butterfly
1x Erio Parkeri
2x Limnophila Aromatica
10x Hygro Brown
10x Blyxa Japonica
10x Starougyne Repens 049
That is all I can think of right now. Thank you for looking and any advice given!
