Quietest air pump?!

In your opinion what is the most quiet air pump? I need a new one for my 40breeder... my current one is driving me NUTS!! Its even on a towel and that does nothing to quiet it. Its a few years old and has started making this loud humming. Not the normal sound, much louder. I can't take it any more!!! Lol

I personally like the Tetra Whisper pumps. I use a Whisper 40 on my 40 gallon breeder and it does a good job and is very quiet.

Also, many pumps also have a repair kit you can purchase. After time the diaphragm wears out and that is what causes the pump to make more noise. The kits are usually around $5 so will save you money and are pretty easy to install. I know bigalspets.com sells kits for a few different makes and models. What kind of air pump do you have?

Another vote for whisper. I TRIED to make that thing make sound and I couldn't. ... Curse you rubberized feet!

Whisper pumps will start making noise when the rubber diaphragm gets a hole/cut in it. They do wear out. Unfortunately it seems the newer line of their pumps aren't as good of a quality as they used to be. I had a Whisper 100 that lasted 6 months before it had this problem. Replaced the pump because it was cheaper than the repair kit - it lasted 30 days and back to same problem. I ended up buying this pump to run 6 tanks and it's been great! Quiet hum but no complaints from my husband and son about the noise.

How you place them has a role in sound. Put them on a rubber mat and noise will be reduced.

I have the Azoo from Drs Foster & Smith and it is nice and quiet. It also has the rubber feet so vibration is at a minimum.
