Hi All,

I was going to start fertiliizng N and P today as soon as Fed EX shows up.
My 75g hi lighted tank has been going for 7 weeks. I have been dosing Seachem Flouris, Iron, and Potassium for the last couple of weeks.

I am going away for 10 days on business in about 5 days from now which means that my wife has to take over the tank (Help). Do I mix up the solutions for the N and P and show her how to test and what to does while I'm away, or should she just dose what I had been doing and not get started on the new fertilizers? Wil the tank hold off until I get back?

I appreciate your help.

Let it rest till you get back, you'll either have a balanced system when you get back or a complete mess that you tear out and compost, cursing me profusely. If the latter happens I'll send you some new plants.

To be honest I'd leave it be while I was gone. You can teach your wife to dose if you want. Maybe you should invest in a liquid doser, Big Al's has an inexpensive one, but you won't have it available for this trip.

When your ferts arrive, give it the N and P, and let her dose the other stuff while you are gone. When you get back, pick up where you left off on the N and P since those are the two you really want to be there to watch.

Hey, only YOU know your wife! You know whether she has any "planted aquarium aptitude", or is a "complete tank killer".

If she understands what is going on, can handle the responsibility, and you won't go completely off the wall nuts " I am gonna kill her for messin' up" if she has a problem, then let your lovely wife do it!

Otherwise, I would agree with SCMurphy. Let the new fertilizing regime start when you come back from your trip!

roflmao -

explain to your wife the dosing as you have been doing it with Seachem Flouris, Iron, and Potassium... Let her do that...

Flourish is a proven product - I am sure the plants will last 10 days with it:-)

Thanks guys for the comments. I will let the tank wait as I could tell her how to dose but I think having her test for phosphates and nitrates and then proceed based on those reults could be iffy at best. Actually we are married 18 years today and I would like to see if we could make it to 19 years.
