No such thing as finding good deals in the DC area. Pricing is decent but there is a LOT of junk and pricing not worthy of chasing.

Most craigslist tank ads are ripoffs but great deals show up now and then that are usually gone within hours. I've found many more great deals using the search term "fish tank" than searching "aquarium".

Best I've seen was a perfect condition tenecor bull nose tank (over $2k new) and all equipment for free. Ad said that Dad died and they wanted someone that could take care of his beloved fish - all supplies/equipment/tank came with the fish.

The best I've been able to get was my 75 gal with angle iron stand that weighs a ton but doesn't budge an mm and has a nice shelf could put another aquarium on. Also, came with 3 HOB filters (one Aquaclear 70), Python water changer, a huge fake hollow tree that would actually fit better in a 200gal tank (don't use anymore since I went planted. Substrate also don't use anymore. And a whole bunch of fake plants. All for $125.00. I almost hate to get a bigger aquarium since I really like my stand.

I missed out on 120gal with new stand/canopy for $100.00 .. I emailed 30 mins after it was posted but didn't get a reply until next when i was told it was gone already. Well yeah .. if she's got back to me sooner it probably would have been mine.

Yes, it's amazing how much people want for their tanks.. often as much or more than just going and paying full retail, and 99% of the time they are FILTHY too. I can't help but laugh when I see a 10-20 gallon aquarium listed for $200+. No one is going to pay that.

Every good deal I've come across has been gone by the time I email about it. I've noticed a lot of people have gotten lazy about removing their ads once things have sold.

I got good deals, but it was after weeding through a lot of scams and bogus ads. There was an ad for a 30g full reef setup that the guy wanted nearly $1k for. Those adds are far more common than the good deals.

It also helps to have an OCD g/f that is always scanning CL for deals and keeping an eye out for me.

wait until the end of the month and and the 12th.
many people have to move out by the 1st or 15th.

check ads late at night and before lunch.

many, if not all, people slightly inflate the price knowing that there are people that are going to give a crazy offer. offer a reduced but fair price.

when I post on CL I always up the price a little, still a good deal but up from what I expect to get.

I usually get offers for 1/2 what I posted, which I ignore. I usually settle for 20-25% less than what I advertised.

I hope it means "fresh"

i havent been so lucky on craigslist. came across a few tanks only to find them damaged or less than advertised. More people in my area sell full salt or brackish setups for 500 and up. great if for someone jumping into the hobby i suppose.

Not sure what exactly what your looking for but I check weekly sometimes everyday and I pretty much always find something to jump on. The problem I have in the dfw is that when you want to go and view the tank, they stop responding and don't allow you to check it out. People here see it as if you come you take.
