50/50's look pretty poor on planted tanks? You are also cutting your usable light in half in essence, but leaving the other half available for algae to utilize.

In my own opinion..... You can have almost any plant in crappy light (3500k) just a matter of them dying eventually. I've had some Downoi and blyxa in barely 1 watt per gallon and no c02. They never melted.... But they looked so-so...... I didn't know anything about planted tanks n I wanted to try and learned the hard way. Haha. If ur going to go fully planted it would be worth spending the money you don't want to. I spent over $200 in plants the past 3 months trying to stay the free or cheaper route

Sorry. And I used stock lighting it was "ok"

I have a single t8 over my 20L and grow crypts (lutea, sprialis & red wenti), sword, java ferns, water fern, & a little grass like plant I can't remember the name of!

I use ferts (liquid) & the plants do well.

I think about upgrading but don't want to deal w/ CO2.
