140 Cube - Aquascaping ideas please

Greetings all,

I've finally done it! I've sold my salty stuff. I'm a reefer no more. It was a hard decision but I've been burned out on it for a few years now. I haven't had a planted tank in a long time (1996?) and I'm excited to open new ground. I've seen many planted tanks that are simply fantastic and I'm ready to put one in my living room.

I have a problem though. I like the traditional dutch look but my tank is 36 x 36 x 26 (~140 gallons). At first it didn't occur to me how these styles conflicted but the tank will be view-able on three sides. I need advice. Can you provide some inspiration? Do you have links to any good examples? I've googled but come up flat.

Lighting: 4x39 watt T-5 (two starcoats, Giesemann Midday, Giesemann Aqua Flora)
CO2: tank with a diy reactor
Ferts: starting with PPS Pro, haven't ruled out EI later
Substrate: mix of MGOCPM and mineralized top soil covered with Moltan SafeT Absorbant

There are a couple very nice planted cubes here. A quick search should bring you a couple good results. I think crazydaz(sp?) has one you might like.

While you may never win the blue ribbon in a Dutch Tank Show (if there are Blue Ribbons to be won?) you certainly can Aquascape your tank anyway you like.

As stated Don (Crazydaze) efforts may give you ideas. The nice thing about a cube that size is that you can with careful planning create 3 aquascapes, one for each viewing point vs. just concentrating on the front view.

If it were my tank I would draw 3 pictures left, center and right views and attempt to treat them all as main view points. Interesting challenge to say the least.

Thanks! Crazydaz's last iteration was awesome. The new one is pretty cool too but it wouldn't work with my canopy. My tank is proportionally taller than his too. Any thoughts on this?

Just pick plants that fit the hgt./light levels you have to work with. Canopy or open top planted tanks both work well with well thought out planning & proper execution.

With Huge Cubes, this is the first thing that comes to mind.

Great video. That is a very skilled scape but the flora is a bit spartan for my tastes.

I have a lot to learn. I just ordered a few different sizes of tweezers and scissors.

Everything else has now been ordered as well. I'm down to the hardscape and livestock decisions/purchases.

I think Tom Barrs "dutch something or the other" could be modified to look great in a cube.

That is an awesome tank and you could do some wonderful things with those dimensions.

Do you have to have the canopy? An open top would open up more possibilities.

+1 on the "Nature's Chaos". If it were me I'd do an island type aquascape, IMHO that's what cube tanks were made for.
