I currently have 2 topless tanks and I do agree they look so much better. I have my 10g grow out on the floor which my cat seems to enjoy.

topless, and with the waterline to the brim
THAT however makes jumpers worse.

I dislike topless because it invites wayyyy too many bugs to lay eggs into my tanks, and I don't like the evaporation rates. A plexiglass or glass lid is just as pretty to my eye and reduces a lot of the possible predators that could make their way into my tanks, thanks to the other half who loves pretending that he was raised in a barn and leaves the doors open.

A clear silicone rimless filled to the top and topless is like a magic volume of water.

Go to the glass shop and have some plate glass cut for tops for winter and for jumpers.

Mold and jumper issues solved.

This look is what drove me to get the Fluval Edge. While it is not pure topless, it is a glass bikini top... which is still kinda cool.

Mine are all topless right now; heavy layers of floaters seem to be discouraging jumping. But the evaporation is making me crazy--that's a lot of distilled water to lug. I'm thinking of going to clear glass tops.

I was thinking about replacing my wife's little goldfish tank with one of these - looks like a pain to keep the glass clean though with no snails or otos.

The minute I removed my first trim I was sold on the look. So much cleaner! Evap rates are insane though. I can't imagine what it will be like on my 200g.

Removing trim is extremely easy. A good razor knife, a steady hand and some time is all you really need. And a bunch more razor blades to clean up silicone residue.
